Sarah Jennifer Curtis
(4th June 2003 - 20th June 2009)
Here you will find out all about our very own little Sarah Bear! Sadly, our daughter Sarah died of a brain tumour on the 20th June 2009 when she was just six years old.
As she was such a big fan of Mulberry Bear, her sisters Josie and Katie thought it would be a great idea to make a little tribute page especially for her.
We hope you enjoy it!
We hope you will be happy to read about Sarah before downloading and printing off the PDF file at the bottom of the page- you will then have a FREE pattern to make your own Mulberry Tear Bears!

The Wizard of Oz was Sarah's favourite film of all time. |

Sarah used to watch the Wizard of Oz over and over when she had to stay in hospital after her radiotherapy sessions, and it really did help her pass the long hours we spent in the Schiehallion Day Care Unit at Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital, Glasgow. Sarah used to love her Ruby Slippers- she had a little pair that she wore when going to hospital for her treatment.. |

This page will let you know all about Sarah Bear and what a little character she was! She was an inspiration to us all, and her upbeat outlook on life helped us deal with caring for her throughout her illness. We will add all her details soon! We have attached the link above so that you will easily be able to make a donation to the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust, should you wish- the charity which funded the Clinical Trial that Sarah was on as part of her treatment. We hope that many of you will be moved enough by Sarah's story to make a donation to this organisation in the hope that more research can be undertaken into trying to find a cure or at least give children a better prognosis once they have been diagnosed with a brain tumour.... When Sarah was diagnosed with a Brain Stem Glioma, we were told the same day that there was nothing that could be done for her- the tumour was inoperable because of where it was and the current treatment could only hope to prolong her life by a few more months. As it was, we had ten months with her before the tumour eventually progressed and ended her short little life. However, although there were some impossibly difficult times, especially towards the end, as a family we made the best of every minute and despite the regular trips into hospital, we managed to fit in trips to Lapland to see Santa (via the "When you Wish Upon a Star" charity), a trip to Disneyland, Paris (thanks to kind support from friends and family and a stay in a beautiful Scottish Castle (Culcreuch Castle, Fintry) where "Make a Wish" granted Sarah's Special Wish for her and her sisters to be Fairy Princesses. When Sarah's condition started to deteriorate, we spent a week at "Calum's Cabin" just outside Rothesay on the beautiful Isle of Bute. We had a very special time there, as we knew only too well that the clock was ticking... Despite losing Sarah, my husband David and I remain positive about the future- we have lots of very special memories of Sarah which we will treasure for ever. Her laid back outlook on life has rubbed off on us, and we have learned so much from watching her deal with everything that her illness threw at her with such courage and resillience. We are both so grateful to have had Sarah in our lives, even if it was for such a short time. We also still have so much to be positive about- our two other little bears, Josie and Katie make us laugh every day, and we are all looking forward to enjoying one day at a time for many years to come. Please consider clicking on the link above to donate even a small amount to such a worthwhile cause. As a thank you for your kindness, I have attached a link below to a PDF File here which will allow you to download and print out our basic Mulberry Tear Bear Pattern for free. The minimun donation to the "Justgiving" website is £2.00, but this is good value if you then go on to print out the tear bear pattern as well as the eyes and noses which you can also download for free here. Please consider making a donation if you download and then go on to use the free printables... Thanks for all your support. Sharron |
